ASD IS A CANDIDATE SCHOOL FOR THE IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME.

Overview

The American School of Douala is a Candidate School* for the Diploma Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School.

These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that The American School of Douala believes is important for our students. *Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP).

Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.

IBDP SUBJECTS GROUPS

As a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), we are working toward offering the following subjects upon authorization. This proposed curriculum reflects our commitment to providing a rigorous, globally-minded education that prepares students for success in higher education and beyond.

Students must select One subject from each of the following six groups ( With some flexibility in Group 6):

Additional Core Requirements (Mandatory for a full diploma students)

In addition to six subjects, students must also complete the IB Core:

  • Theory Of Knowledge (TOK) – A COURSE FOR critical thinking
  • Extended Essay (EE) – a 4.000-word independent research paper
  • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – experiential learning through projects and service
